What is SoSS?

SoSS is a different kind of hot sauce. The Core Trinity of flavors are thoughtful and balanced condiments that are meant to excite the taste buds and spark culinary creativity across a wide range of flavor and heat. They are full-bodied, sophisticated and deep, but also accessible and versatile. The heat levels are honest: Very hot means very hot, and barely hot means warm. But at the end of the day, heat is subjective, so dive in and see what suits you! Beyond the Trinity you will see limited releases of Summer Session flavors that take advantage of local fruit harvests and special collaborative flavors such as Burger Venom.

Who Makes the SoSS?

SoSS was started by me, Tommy Terrell, in a one-bedroom apartment in Charlottesville, VA in 2019. People had such a strong reaction to my first recipes that I decided to make it legit and it's pretty much just been snowballing since then. Before SoSS I was a Video Producer working in advertising, and a guitarist in a rock band. I still make videos and music, but over the past few years SoSS has become a core focus of my professional and personal life, and I'm very excited to continue this growth, expand my community, and share my creativity in this way. I love meeting passionate people, collaborating, and sharing the joy of food and flavor with those around me.

What’s in the Jars?

The answer to that is simple. We use only natural: fresh fruits, vegetables, vinegars, juices and spices. No extra preservatives, thickeners, or cheap tricks. SoSS respects the seasonality of ingredients and supports regional agriculture, with a focus on supporting women and farmers of color. Some of our favorite growers are: Bellair Farm, Crazy Farm, New Roots Charlottesville (International Rescue Committee), F.J. Medina Farm, Singing Earth Produce and other quality farms through 4P Foods. Every season our capacity expands and we look for new partnerships and collaborations with local orgs, farms and restaurants to create something new.

SoSS believes access to land and fresh food is integral to confronting poverty, racial injustice and inequity in our communities, and through our growth we will consistently support initiatives to create healthier food systems and communities for all. SoSS does not tolerate bigotry of any kind. If you are annoyed by our support of Black and Brown People, Trans People, or any other marginalized groups, then you are welcome to not support us. We are not trying to "win" at capitalism. We are here to create small moments of joy and support those who cultivate hope for a better future.
